Creating a System Chart

Mohammed Jamal Updated by Mohammed Jamal

System Charts enable the creation of various chart styles based on your data. These charts can then be added as widgets to your organisation's System Dashboards.

Users can interact with the charts through drill-through functionality, by selecting specific areas to navigate to relevant system sections. Charts can also be downloaded as SVG or PNG image files.

To create a System Chart:

  1. Navigate to Settings > Views & Dashboards > System Charts. The 'System Charts' page is displayed.
  2. Select the Create new record button on the toolbar. The 'System Chart: New' dialog is displayed:

  1. Complete the fields on the dialog, mandatory fields are marked with a red asterisk *.

Series

Select one or more Series to be shown in the chart.

• The first drop-down contains field values from the selected Record Type. This value will be displayed on the Y-axis of the Chart.

• The second drop-down contains the result types that are applicable to field chosen in the first drop-down for the Series. For example, Sum is only available where the field specified for the Series is numeric, decimal or currency and the values can be added together.

• A third drop-down menu is only displayed if Type = Mixed and required the selection of the type of chart that applies to the Series.

• Enter a Series Label for the data in the final column if required. By default, the system displays '[Value selected in column 2] (Value selected in column 1)'.

Categories

Add one or more Categories. These values group the data on the X-axis of the Chart. You can select fields within the Record Type selected, or Child/Parent fields associated to the Record Type.

Show Legend?

Tick the checkbox if you want a legend to be displayed that provides a colour-coded description for each Category value in the chart. Apart from visual guidance, legends also allow users to do the following:

• For Donut and Pie charts, selecting the legend navigates the user to a list view of relevant records.

• For other types, such as Column and Bar, selecting the legend hides/shows the relevant data in the chart.

• For a Mixed chart, selecting a legend hides/shows the relevant chart type.

Checkbox

Position

The position of the legend in the chart. If no value is selected here, and the Show Legend? checkbox is ticked, the legend is shown on the right by default.

Drop-down selection

Valid for Export

Tick the Valid for Export checkbox if you want the System Chart to be included in data migration processes.

Checkbox

Inactive?

Tick the Inactive? checkbox to deactivate a chart and make it unavailable for addition to Dashboards from this point on. You can edit this field after saving to make it available for selection.

Checkbox

  1. Select the Save button to save your chart and display a preview in the righthand pane.
